What to Expect

Chiropractic treatment can be an excellent alternative to prescription drugs and over the counter medications for relief from aches and pains throughout your body. While you may already have prior experience in another chiropractic office, we’d like to let you know what you can expect during your initial in our office. If you have never visited a chiropractor before, you might be surprised to know that your first visit will hardly be any different than an appointment in a primary care setting.

Hopefully this will help you know what to expect before and during your initial chiropractic visit in our office.

Please plan to spend between 60-90 minutes in our office on your first visit.

Health History

Health History

Just like at your doctor’s office, you’ll be asked to fill out paperwork and explain your medical history and the reason for your visit. You’ll be asked things like:

  • When and how did the problem start?
  • Where is the pain located?
  • Does it come and go, or is it constant?
  • What types of activities make your pain better and worse?

Examination

Examination

The purpose of our chiropractic examination is to identify the cause of your pain so that we can develop the best treatment plan specific to your individual needs. The examination involves a series of functional and movement assessments to identify faulty movement patterns in your joints and surrounding soft tissues. This includes a hands-on assessment that is provides an in- depth understanding of your trouble-spots.

Evaluation

Evaluation

Your chiropractor will also consider other causes for your pain that may not be spine or joint related and assure that you are seeing the right provider for your condition.

Your chiropractor will take into account all the specifics of your examination findings and then factor in other elements that are unique to you and your condition, including:

  • The severity of the problem
  • How long you have been experiencing it
  • What other treatments you have already tried, and whether they were helpful or not
  • The overall condition of your spine
  • Your general health and activity level

X-Rays & Other Testing

X-Rays and Other Testing

After the Examination and Evaluation your chiropractor will determine if x-rays or other advanced imaging techniques like MRI are required before beginning treatment. Our doctors follow advanced standards of care as it relates to ordering x-rays, so not every patient we see will have an x-ray prior to beginning treatment.

However, if your condition warrants, your chiropractor will order the appropriate x-rays, which are performed at a local imaging center. By using and imaging center, you will have the most modern x-ray technology and your x-rays will be interpreted by both a board certified medical radiologist and also by your chiropractor. In addition, your x-rays are available online and can be readily accessed by all your care providers, both now and in the future.

Plan of Care

Plan of Care

This is one of the most important elements of your first visit. It is during this time that you and your doctor of chiropractic make a plan to address your condition. We want to understand your goals for treatment and offer you the best options, which sometimes might include a referral to a provider from a different health discipline when needed.

After you and your chiropractor decide that chiropractic is the best course of care, we can assure you that your treatment plan will be customized to you and your condition and you needn’t be concerned about lengthy, drawn out treatment plans.

Our primary objective is to get you back to moving better and feeling better as quickly as possible with the fewest number of visits.

Treatment

Treatment

In most cases, your treatment will begin on the same day as your initial office visit, unless there is a need for further review of your condition before beginning treatment.

We offer a variety of modern techniques for your safety and comfort including low force and traditional chiropractic adjustments to reduce pain and help to restore the normal function of your joints and the tissues that surround and support your joints.

In addition, we will offer you preventative stretches and exercises along with home care instructions to maximize the benefits of each treatment and keep the problem from coming back.

If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to meeting you and helping you feel your best!
